The stories brought us together. What we do next matters. Follow the work, find upcoming rallies, and see how our push for independent survivor advocacy is moving forward.
We are developing a proposal for access to qualified survivor advocates who operate outside a university’s chain of command. Survivors should have independent support and choices about what happens next.
Current stage: Drafting & review

Current stage
Drafting & review
We are developing and reviewing the proposal’s language, independent advocate responsibilities, and practical protections. This is the current stage. The proposal has not been identified here as an introduced bill or enacted law.
This image shows confirmed progress on the New York proposal. We update it as milestones are reached. State and federal efforts have their own legislative processes. Official bill links and effective dates will be added when confirmed.
Read the seven milestones
1. Idea & research Completed
The proposal begins with a clear problem: survivors need access to qualified advocates who operate outside the institution they may need to challenge. Research and survivor choice shape the work.
2. Drafting & review Current stage
We are developing and reviewing the proposal’s language, independent advocate responsibilities, and practical protections. This is the current stage. The proposal has not been identified here as an introduced bill or enacted law.
3. Legislative sponsor Ahead
A legislator agrees to carry the proposal forward. Outreach and discussion can help refine the draft before formal introduction. A sponsor will be named here once confirmed.
4. Bill introduced Ahead
The proposal is formally introduced in the legislature and receives an official bill number. We will add the official bill text and tracking link when that milestone is confirmed.
5. Committee consideration Ahead
Legislative committees consider the bill. Review may include revisions, hearings, and committee votes. We will report actual actions and their dates as they occur.
6. Passed both chambers Ahead
The Senate and Assembly approve the same bill text. Each chamber’s progress and any changes will be recorded separately in updates.
7. Enacted into law Ahead
The bill becomes law through the applicable legislative process. We will link the official enacted text and report its effective date separately, so everyone can see when the protections begin.
Confirmed event information will be shared here as plans develop.
In planning
Our first rally: Ithaca, New York
Planned location: Ho Plaza, Cornell University
We are organizing a gathering for survivors and supporters to stand together against sexual violence and call for meaningful change. Event arrangements are being coordinated; confirmed date, time, access information, and support details will be posted here.
Our current work includes developing the Independent Survivor Advocacy Act and preparing our first rally in Ithaca. This page will hold confirmed milestones and event details as those plans move forward.
